Protecting your personal information is our number-one priority
In today's digital age, where personal information is increasingly vulnerable to unauthorised access and misuse, protecting your privacy has never been more important. It is essential that we collectively recognise the importance of protecting your personal information to ensure your security and wellbeing.
Personal information covers a broad range of sensitive data, such as medical records, financial details, contact information and identification documents. This information is not only crucial for providing healthcare services, but also for protecting your rights and ensuring your confidentiality.
Visit www.libcare.co.za for Libcare's Privacy Statement.
The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and procedure (tariff) codes form part of this sensitive data as they are used to classify and report medical diagnoses and procedures for claims processing, data collection and analysis. However, some these codes may reveal sensitive or personal information about your health condition, such as mental disorders, sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse or pregnancy.
If these codes are used in a member statement, they may violate the patient's privacy and confidentiality rights, and expose them to potential discrimination, stigma or harm.
Therefore, it is advisable to avoid using ICD and procedure (tariff) codes in a member statement for security reasons, and instead we use more general or descriptive terms that do not disclose the patient's specific diagnosis or procedure.
For more details on ICD and procedure (tariff) codes, please contact us on 0800 122 273 (0800 12 CARE) from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, or email us at enquiries@libcare.co.za
