Libcare's Preventative Care Benefit and Oncology Programme offer the right support
Cancer can be a life-changing diagnosis. With early detection and the right support, treatment can begin sooner and outcomes can improve. Libcare's Preventative Care Benefits and Oncology Programme are here to help, offering members and their dependants comprehensive care and financial support after a cancer diagnosis.
Why early screening matters
Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. Routine screenings like mammograms, Pap smears and prostate checks can catch cancer before symptoms appear - when it's most treatable.
Libcare pays for a variety of annual consultations, procedures and vaccinations from the Preventative Care Benefit. For the recommended age groups, this Benefit covers annual screenings such as mammograms, Pap smears and prostate pathology tests.
Oncology Programme benefits
Once registered on the Programme, patients get access to the annual benefit of up to R848 500 (2025), covering approved treatments, diagnostics and specialised medicines.
The annual benefit includes:
- PET or PET-CT scans: One per patient for staging and malignant tumours.
- Specialised oncology medicine: Covered up to R582 800 for each beneficiary within the annual benefit limit.
- Associated diagnostics: Up to R85 500, within the annual benefit
- Bone marrow transplants: Covered under Major Medical Benefits with prior approval.
How to register
If you are diagnosed with cancer, registration on the Programme is essential because unregistered claims may be rejected or paid from day-to-day benefits, which can be quickly depleted.
To register, your doctor must send your treatment plan to:
- oncology@libcare.co.za
- Queries: 0800 12 CARE (2273) (Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00).
Libcare's will assess your treatment plan for approval.
Any changes to the treatment plan must also be updated through the above channels, to avoid claims rejections.
