What is Basic (out-of-hospital) Dentistry?

Consultations, removal of teeth and roots, plastic dentures, dental technician, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) etc.

Covered from your Medical Savings Facility (MSF), Out-of-hospital Expenses Benefit (OHEB) and/or Threshold Benefit (THB) subject to limits.

What is Advanced (out-of-hospital) Dentistry?

Inlays, crowns, bridges, orthodontic treatment (younger than 21 years, and subject to preauthorisation), oral surgery etc

Covered from your Medical Savings Facility (MSF), Out-of-hospital Expenses Benefit (OHEB) and/or Threshold Benefit (THB) subject to limits.

Did you know you need to authorise your dependant's orthodontic treatment?

A full treatment plan and quotation including the duration and the number of payments is required in South African Rands and must be submitted to the medical scheme for authorsiation purposes.

The treatment plan must also include diagnostic records, estimated retention costs and costs of dental technicians.

Orthodontic treatment for patients over the age of 21 years is a scheme exclusion.

Dental surgery (in-hospital and out-of-hospital)

All costs relating to dental implants, the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, apicectomies and basic dentistry under general anesthetic for children eight years and younger requires authorisation.

Pre-authorisation is required for both in-hospital and out-of-hospital procedures.
