Libcare Medical Scheme AGM and Trustee Elections 2026: Member Engagement and Governance in Action
Libcare hosted its 62nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, 25 June 2026, at the Liberty Centre in Braamfontein. The meeting brought together members, Trustees, the Regulator and other stakeholders to reflect on the Scheme's performance and governance.
Libcare members once again showcased their keen interest and active involvement in the governance of their Scheme.
Over 70 Libcare members attended the meeting in person and 20 were represented by proxy. Attendees spanned in age from 22 to 83 years old - with the largest group aged 30 or below at 27%, followed by ages 31-40 at 26% of attendees.
Commitment to Transparency and Good Governance
The AGM covered key governance matters, including the adoption of the Board of Trustees' report, audited financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2025, and the auditor's report. Members also participated in a non-binding vote on Trustee remuneration and policy, reinforcing Libcare's commitment to accountability and transparency.
Updates on broader healthcare developments, including the National Health Insurance (NHI), were also shared to keep members informed of industry changes.
Trustee Election Results
A key element of this year's AGM cycle was the Trustee election process, which was conducted in line with Scheme governance requirements. From the start of the nomination process in May, Libcare members participated enthusiastically in promoting the benefits of being active in the process and submitting nominations of candidates they considered suited to serving on the Board of Trustees.
Eight member-nominated individuals fulfilled the fit-and-proper vetting requirements and stood for election for the four member-elected Trustee vacancies:
This key nomination process ensures that members have a say in the Board composition, and that governance remains inclusive in shaping the strategic direction of the Scheme.
Following the voting process at the AGM, Ms 'Mampeo Leisanyane and Kamogelo Tladi and Messrs Ntuthuko Jili and Craig Peters were elected by members to serve on the Board of Trustees. The Company's nominees filling the remaining four Board vacancies are Ms Gloria Nhlapo and Messrs Nishaan Desai, Tienie Hamman and Andrew Lonmon-Davis.
Looking Ahead
The 2026 AGM reaffirmed Libcare's focus on strong governance, transparency, and member participation. With the Board appointment process successfully concluded, the Scheme continues to uphold best practices in governance while ensuring that the collective member interests remain at the centre of decision-making.
Heartfelt thanks to all Libcare members for their vibrant interest and participation in the successful execution of this year's AGM and Trustee election!
